What most people do is scrap the nicads and wire in AA alkalines in a 3 battery holder. I think you can still get them at Radio Shack. Add a 1-2' of wire to it and mount it inside the backbox with velcro. Alkaline batteries today have long shelf lifes but should it ever get forgotten in there and the batteries start to degrade, the corrosion won't run down the long wire and damage the MPU board.

i had some re chargables laying around and wanted to use the boards charging ability to keep them charged , i was just wondering if these batteries are compatible with the stock battery voltage/amperage

i mean would these batteries charge in the same way, or... over/under charge  when the game is on, causing a board or  battery failure

otherwise, i will use the alkaline batts with a diode

thanks

If you are replacing nicads with nicads there's no problem. Don't use Nimh. The original batteries were nicads

Thanks for mentioning the diode when using alkalines. I forgot. The diode is need to prevent the MPU from charging the alkalines. Which would be a bad thing.

That nicad off-board setup is the way to go. The only way to go. Thanks for the Velcro tip. I tried JB Weld and that wouldn't hold it.

What about a 2032 battery?  Williams videos are often converted from their three AA setup to using one of these.  I did it to my Defender and it works great.
